Released in 1974, War Child followed the ambitious A Passion Play and saw Jethro Tull return to a more accessible blend of progressive rock, folk influences and theatrical songwriting. Led by Ian Anderson, the album combines complex arrangements with memorable melodies and remains one of the band’s most popular 1970s releases.
The album features the hit single “Bungle in the Jungle,” one of Jethro Tull’s most commercially successful songs, alongside fan favourites such as “Skating Away (On the Thin Ice of the New Day)” and the energetic title track. The orchestral arrangements add depth and grandeur without overwhelming the band’s characteristic sound.
For many collectors, War Child represents one of the strongest bridges between Tull’s progressive era and their more mainstream success.
