Description
Heading Home by South African pianist and composer Hotep Idris Galeta is a refined jazz release from the early 1990s, blending Cape jazz traditions with modern African jazz composition. Galeta was an influential figure in South African jazz, known for his work both locally and internationally, and this album reflects his mature musical voice following years in exile.

The record features a strong ensemble including Khaya Mahlangu on tenor and soprano saxophones, Spencer Mbadu on bass guitar, and Monty Weber on drums. The music moves between melodic Cape jazz themes and rhythmic African-influenced compositions, with highlights such as “District Six,” “Cape Town,” and the energetic “Happy Hanna.”

Released on the African Echoes label (Sun Music Company) in 1990, this pressing represents a later-era South African jazz recording with relatively smaller production runs, making copies less common than earlier mainstream releases.
