A landmark hard-bop recording originally released in 1958, Moanin’ remains one of the defining albums of the Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers catalogue. Featuring an extraordinary lineup including Lee Morgan on trumpet, Benny Golson on tenor saxophone and Bobby Timmons on piano, the album blends blues, gospel influence and driving jazz rhythms into one of Blue Note’s most enduring releases. This copy appears to be a later Blue Note reissue (United Artists era pressing, BNS 40012) with the distinctive blue Blue Note label.
