This 1980 release marked a significant shift in Donna Summer’s career. After dominating the disco era in the late ’70s, The Wanderer was her first album for Geffen Records and leaned more toward new wave, pop-rock, and synth-driven sounds rather than pure disco. Produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, it has a cooler, slightly darker tone compared to her earlier Casablanca-era hits.

The title track “The Wanderer” became a substantial international hit and remains one of her signature crossover singles from the post-disco transition period.
