Lloyd Cole
(1990)
After the end of The Commotions, Lloyd Cole’s self-titled 1990 album marked a confident shift into a more American-influenced, polished rock sound. Recorded in the U.S. and featuring high-profile session musicians (including members of R.E.M.), this LP blends literate songwriting with jangly guitars and understated production. It includes some of his most recognisable solo material, notably “No Blue Skies” and “Don’t Look Back.”
This is the original 1990 Polydor issue, with the distinctive front sleeve featuring Cole’s portrait marked with a painted “X.” The back cover shows handwritten-style track listing, typical of early pressings.
