Spooky Tooth – Spooky Two

A powerful slice of late-60s British progressive rock, Spooky Two is widely regarded as Spooky Tooth’s finest studio album. Released in 1969 and produced by Jimmy Miller (best known for his work with The Rolling Stones), the record captures the band at their creative peak — blending blues-rock grit, proto-prog ambition and soulful vocals.

Fronted by the distinctive voice of Mike Harrison and featuring the formidable keyboard work of Gary Wright, this album delivers heavy Hammond organ textures, dynamic songwriting and that raw, slightly psychedelic edge that defined the era. It’s darker and heavier than much of its contemporaries, giving it lasting appeal among collectors of early progressive and hard rock.

Standout moments include the driving opener “Waitin’ for the Wind”, the emotional “I’ve Not Enough Heartache”, and the expansive “Better by You, Better Than Me” (later famously covered by Judas Priest). The closer, “Hangman Hang My Shell on a Tree,” stretches into epic territory and shows the band’s progressive leanings in full flight.
