Chicago – Chicago XIV
Released in 1980, Chicago XIV marked a transitional period for Chicago as they moved further into a polished pop-rock direction. While it didn’t produce major long-term hits like their earlier ’70s releases, the album carries that unmistakable Chicago blend of tight brass arrangements, layered harmonies, and radio-ready songwriting.
This was the band’s 14th studio album (hence the Roman numeral title), and it reflects the shift from their classic jazz-rock fusion sound toward a more streamlined early-’80s pop approach. For collectors, it represents the final album before their major commercial resurgence in the mid-’80s.
