Released in 1971, Summertime finds Herb Alpert moving away from the mariachi-influenced brass sound that made The Tijuana Brass famous in the 1960s and toward a softer, contemporary adult-pop style. Although not as collectible as classics such as Whipped Cream & Other Delights or Going Places, Summertime remains a pleasant and respected entry in the Herb Alpert catalogue.
