This soundtrack album was released to accompany the 1977 biographical film Scott Joplin, starring Billy Dee Williams in the title role. The recording celebrates the music of the legendary ragtime composer whose work helped shape early American popular music and paved the way for jazz. Following the success of The Sting and the renewed interest in ragtime during the 1970s, this soundtrack brought many of Joplin’s best-known compositions to a new audience.

The album features performances of classic Scott Joplin ragtime pieces, including several of his most famous works such as Maple Leaf Rag, The Entertainer and Heliotrope Bouquet. A rewarding album for fans of ragtime, piano music, film soundtracks and American musical history.
