Animals is one of Pink Floyd’s most acclaimed and uncompromising albums, released in 1977 between the monumental success of Wish You Were Here and The Wall. Inspired in part by George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the album presents a dark and powerful critique of society, dividing humanity into symbolic groups represented by dogs, pigs and sheep.
Musically, Animals features some of the band’s most ambitious work, with extended compositions, atmospheric soundscapes and outstanding performances from David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. Tracks such as Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones) and Sheep have become essential pieces of the Pink Floyd catalogue and are regarded as progressive rock classics.
The iconic Battersea Power Station cover featuring the inflatable pig remains one of the most recognisable album covers in rock history.
